Exhibition "Owl - the symbol of wisdom in different cultures of the world"



On October 25, 2005 in the premises of the Slovak Institute in Moscow the official opening of the unique collection of the artefacts - the symbol of the Civic foundation "The Little owl", under the name "The owl - as a symbol of wisdom in different cultures of the world" took place. The opening of the exhibition has taken place in the presence of the Foundation´s president Mrs. Zdenka Kukanova and her husband - the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Slovakia, Mr. Eduard Kukan.

The Ambassador of Slovakia to the Russian Federation H.E. Mr. Augustin Cisar welcomed more than 100 invited guests in representative halls of the Slovak Embassy. Specially ha has welcommed 3 year old Azamat Mugakov - one of the child victims in Beslan tragedy. Minister E. Kukan became a kind of Azamat second father after this tragic event. Together with his wife they presented to him some toys and also a financial assistance.

Little Azamat Mukagov enriched the collection of Mrs. Kukanova by his drawing of an owl. The exhibition was officially opened by the Director of
the Slovak Institute Mr. J. Kalnicky. He introduced to the guests the foundation "The Little owl" and its humanitarian activities aimed at assisting the talented and handicapped children. Briefly he also characterised the sets of more than 1,000 pieces of the exhibits as to their artistic creation and also to the materials from which the are made.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. E. Kukan - the real iniciator of this collection, informed the guests about the beginnings of the collection efforts of his wife. He also spoke about his personal experiences connected to this beginning. The guests were especiallly intriqued by the explanations about the symbolic importance of the owl in our culture, its difference from the owl symbolism in the other cultures of the world. After the inaugural speeches, the tenor of the Musical Institute of the Gnesin and the member of the Moscow Philharmonic Mr. A. Kleimjonov performed several musical pieces.

The atmosphere of the exhibiton was also nicely influenced by the melodies of Mozart, Haydn, Weber and Schumann performed by the popular duo - Larisa and Jevgenia Cernova.

Together with the representatives of the "Friendship society with Slovakia", the directors of sister schools, artists, writers, literature scientists, actors, photographers and creative artists, connected by the cooperation and personal ties with Slovakia,and also representatives of the funds and associations for supports of the children Vzgžad Rebionka, Azbuka, Mir Detej, Detskije Fondy RF, Zelionnaja Planeta participated in the opening.

Several media also showed the interests in the event. Among them namely Slovensky rozhlas, Hospodarske noviny, TVC, Kosmomožskaja Pravda, Izvestia, Moskvicka, Tribuna, diplomat, Interfax, Itartas, Radion Golos Rossii.
